Privacy Policy

Owner review pending. Privacy contact details and the operator’s country await owner confirmation. This policy must be finalised before app-store submission.

This policy explains how Muslim Notebook’s website and mobile reading application handle information. Reading does not require a reader account. Optional notifications are separate from access to publications.

Who operates this service

Muslim Notebook is an independent Islamic publishing platform. The operator’s confirmed public identity, country and privacy-contact address will be recorded here before app-store submission.

Reading data stored on your device

The mobile app stores bookmarks, highlights and their passage anchors, reading history and progress, appearance and language preferences, notification choices, cached publication text and downloaded media in local app storage. This supports offline reading and resuming your place. Reading activity can reveal religious interests; these personal reading records are not uploaded to a Muslim Notebook reader-profile service.

The app has no reader-account or app-operated cloud synchronisation for personal reading data. Your operating system, device manufacturer or backup provider may nevertheless include app data in device backups according to your device settings. Uninstalling or clearing app storage may remove local data, but does not necessarily remove device backups or files you have exported.

Website preferences and editorial access

The website saves theme and language choices in browser storage. Its language cookie can persist for up to a year. Editorial sign-in and draft-preview functions may use additional authentication/session or preview information. They are for authorised editors, not compulsory reader accounts. Your browser can clear this storage and cookies; doing so can reset preferences or editor sessions.

Requests for publications, media and search

The website is hosted on Vercel and published content and media are supplied through Sanity. The app and website request publication catalogues, individual article text, images and documents from these services or a referenced media host. Standard request information can include your IP address, requested URL, time, device/browser or network information and technical error information. Providers may process and retain operational/security logs under their own policies and service arrangements.

Website search sends your search terms to the website’s search endpoint. Current app catalogue search runs locally against downloaded metadata. Opening articles, external links or media may disclose requested addresses to their hosts. These requests can indirectly indicate the topics you read; local bookmarks and highlights are not sent merely because you view a publication.

Optional publication notifications

If you enable notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firebase Installations process installation/registration identifiers and related technical information to register this installation and deliver messages. These identifiers are not a reader name, but must not be described as completely anonymous. Your English, Arabic or Both preference determines a publication-topic subscription. Android notification permission is requested when you choose to enable alerts; declining does not prevent reading.

A notification includes a public publication’s title, language and article identifier or link. Notifications can be visible on your lock screen depending on device settings. Changing or disabling preferences requests subscription changes; temporary connectivity and provider delays can affect when changes take effect. You can also disable alerts in operating-system settings.

The server’s publication-notification records describe public articles and dispatch status, not your highlights or private reading history. Background article-text retrieval after a notification is best-effort and subject to operating-system, battery and network restrictions. Apple notification delivery requires additional configuration; this policy describes prepared functionality and does not assert that push delivery is currently active on either platform.

Offline downloads, files and exports

Article text and some media may be cached locally. Wi-Fi-only download preferences apply to offline media downloads; ordinary online images may load over mobile data. Cache entries may be removed to manage storage.

Highlight export creates a portable backup containing saved passages, article identities and anchoring context. Choosing Share or Save passes the file to the app or destination you select. That destination’s policies then apply. Imports are processed locally. Muslim Notebook does not automatically upload exported backups to its own server. Keep exported passages and backups private where appropriate.

Analytics, advertising and information sharing

The current app and website do not include advertising, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or a dedicated reader-behaviour analytics SDK. This does not mean that hosting, content-delivery, Firebase or operating-system providers collect no technical information. Provider dashboards and any later store-distribution statistics must be assessed separately before release.

Information needed to serve requests and deliver optional notifications is processed by the relevant service providers. These providers may process information in countries other than yours. External websites, PDF viewers, share destinations and device backups have their own data practices. Muslim Notebook does not sell local reading records or operate an advertising-profile service in the current implementation.

Retention, deletion and security

Local reading records remain until removed through available app controls, app storage is cleared or the app is uninstalled, subject to device backup and restore behaviour. Cached content may be evicted. Notification-event receipts used on the device are generally pruned after 30 days; the record that permission was previously requested is retained to avoid repeated prompts. Public-article dispatch receipts can be retained longer to prevent historical duplicate alerts. Provider log and installation-data retention are governed by the applicable provider arrangements; no unverified universal retention period is promised.

You can remove highlights and bookmarks using the app’s controls, manage notifications in app/device settings and delete exported files from their chosen destinations. Clearing browser data removes website preferences. For access, correction or deletion requests concerning information actually held by the operator, use the privacy contact once confirmed. The operator cannot remotely retrieve a local-only passage or erase a file held solely in your own backup account.

Network requests use HTTPS. Local reading files are protected by the device’s app-storage and operating-system security; the app does not claim a separate end-to-end encrypted reading vault. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Children and changes to this policy

Reading does not require submitting an age or creating a reader profile. Parents or guardians should supervise device, sharing and notification settings as appropriate. The operator must confirm the intended store audience and any additional child-specific obligations before distribution.

This policy may change when functionality or providers change. The displayed update date and policy version identify the applicable published text. Material changes should be reviewed before enabling new collection or sharing.
